What is HTTP/1.1 500 Server Error?

I usually check into Dork Tower (Dork Tower) a couple of times a week but this last week when I try to go to the site I get the error message:

HTTP/1.1 500 Server Error

What does this mean and how can I sort out the problem (assuming it's local) to allow me to access the site again?

Please bear in mind that I'm not a web designer, programmer, or a technical user. I'm a (fairly) competent home user who has no idea why this error has started and I can't seem to figure a way around it!

that site seems to be down...i. can't access it either...as a general rule...if you get an "internal server error" when trying to access a website...it's GENERALLY an issue on their end (server might be down etc..)
