Hy there :whistling:

I'm configuring a new PC, but first I would like to know what Video Board should I go for ... because it limits my motherboard options.

I have to choose one from these cards :

1. HIS ATI Radeon X1950Pro Platinum 256MB DDR3 256-bit
( http://www.pcgarage....b-ddr3-256-bit/ )

2. Gecube ATI Radeon X1950Pro 256MB GDDR3 256-bit
( http://www.pcgarage....-gddr3-256-bit/ )

3. Gigabyte ATI Radeon X1950Pro 256 MB DDR3 256-bit
( http://www.pcgarage....b-ddr3-256-bit/ )

4. Galaxy GeForce 7800GTX 256MB DDR3 256-bit
( http://www.pcgarage....b-ddr3-256-bit/ )

5. Galaxy GeForce 7900GS 512MB DDR3 256-bit Zalman Cooling
( http://www.pcgarage....256-bit-zalman/ )

6. Gigabyte GeForce 7900GS 256 MB GDDR3 256-bit
( http://www.pcgarage....-gddr3-256-bit/ )

7. Forsa GeForce 7900GS 512MB DDR3 256-bit
( http://www.pcgarage....b-ddr3-256-bit/ )

8. Gigabyte GeForce 8600GTS 256MB GDDR3 128-bit
( http://www.pcgarage....-gddr3-128-bit/ )

I'm a Nvidia fan, but in this case I saw lots of benchmarks with the ATI x1950Pro and it beat the 7900 GS by 10-20 fps ... also i didn't see any benchs for the 7800 GTX vs 7900 GS or the X1950Pro ... they are all about the same price but the technology used to make them is different ... Which one is the best ? :) in terms of gaming performance, cooling, noise and future game playing

I am going to build something like this :

AMD Athlon X2 5000+
2 Gb Corsair DDR2 800 Mhz
Motherboard ( depends on the video board choice :help: )
320 Gb Seagate SATA2 Drive

etc :help:

I hope you guys can help me :) it's a tough choice, i know but it has to be done :( :)

Thanks :)

Hi Logitek, Can I ask why you are only considering one DX10 card? With the other specs you have posted, I would be saving a little more and getting the 8800GTS 320MB version, like this one: LINK. EVGA is a quality brand. LINK. Gigabyte is also a quality brand, this one is a little cheaper. Also make sure you purchase a quality power supply that has enough juice for all your bits.

I would also recomend the 8800. If you HAVE to have one listed go with any of the x1950pro series ones. Preferably the platinum

I personally would stay away from DX9 cards now, if you can help it. With a DX10 card you are future-proofing your system...

Well, first of all I would like to thank you guys for answering me ....

I thought about the 8800 GTS ( it's performance & it's power hungry appetite ) but that is far more expensive than the ones listed by me ... almost double the price ... you see 900 RON is about 400 $ .. and 400 $ for a vga card is WOA ... too expensive ... I have a budget u know :whistling: :help: The MAXIMUM budget for the VGA card is around 250 $ ( 560 RON ) the pice that the 7800 GTX has ..... Now I'm thinking about this ... the Galaxy 7800 GTX vs HIS X1950Pro Platinum vs the Gigabyte 8600 GTS ( I've narrowed the choices so these three cards stand out for me now )

So in the end ... which one will you chose ... in perfomance terms, power consumption and gaming capability ?

Should I go with the old 7800 GTX , the new 8600 GTS DX 10 card , or the mighty X1950Pro Platinum( the cheapest ) which delivers awesome frame rates ?

After I make this PC I'm not planning in upgrading for about 10 years :)
Thanks :help:;)

I think with your budget either the x1950 XT or x1950pro will be your best option. The 8800 GTS sells for as low as $260 but the price of a new PSU would really put it out of your range.

I know, I know :help: .. I saw the 8800 GTS on ebay or on Amazon...can't remember too well ... it was about 240 $ BRAND NEW SEALED BOX ... but here in Romania it's about 900 RON = 400 $ ... I can't order from ebay or amazon kuz it doesn't deliver to my country :help:((( so I'll just have to settle with these ones :whistling:

Thanks for replying Titan
