I would like to install a second gig memory in my new u205-s5057 laptop.
The slot is under the keyboard.
Toshiba says to take it to an authorised agent but I am in the boonies and would like to do this myself.
How do I lift the keyboard?
I am pretty good mechanically but thought I would ask before trying.
Thanks

Hello and welcome to geekstogo,
your going to need to buy 2 sticks of 1GB to achieve 2GB as your laptop has 2x512MB. It must be laptop memory and should come as a kit (both stick in one package) so that you can be assured that the memory will be compatible together in dual channel. Can you confirm you have done this, otherwise it's not worth going any futher. Also be cautioned that upgrading memory under the keyboard is much riskier then if it were under a panel under your laptop. You can very easily fry something and if you do we cannot be held accountable.
If you can confirm that you have 2 sticks of 1GB (which came in one kit) of the appropriate laptop memory for your laptop I will give you a link to a step by step guide.

james' info is a little bit off (though still ok)...your laptop supports dual channel...but it's not REQUIRED to upgrade that way...you can just slide a single new stick in....so if you've CURRENTLY got two 512 sticks in there...you can replace one with a 1024 (gb) stick giving you 1536 MB of ram...and then you can slide in another identical stick to your Gig stick of ram when you've got it...or when you've got the cash to get it...by the way...your LT can support 4G of ram if you really wanted to get fancy

So all I need to know is how to pop the keyboard.
I am a ham and am familiar with messing with electronic components, grounding etc.
