I agree. The only option may be to rebuild the system. I can't think of anything else to try.

Thanks for all the time and help on this.
Im thinking maybe to just upgrade to a newer machine now, I was thinking of doing it at the end of the year anyway but now seems as good a time as any.
This one is about 5 years old now and has served me as best it could but its time to send it for recycling.
Vista here I come...
