Can't start Recovery Console

I can't get it to boot from cd except once or twice. Screwed up with admin password first time. Then when I start totally over wanted F1 to continue then goes to cd and does it thing but when it
gets thru the R stuff it prompts to c:\> instead of C:\Windows with the 1. When I did actually get that far once and got it to work as far as putting in the cd drive and the expand d:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32 it gave me an access denied. Also not sure what my cd drive is as I've got a zip drive, and a cd burner and am not sure the cd drive is E which it might be???

Lots of issues...can anyone help me???
