I have been sent over here from malware forum to see if you guys can help me
I am having problems with my comp automatically shutting down when I disconnect from AOL .
The comp then starts up and I get windows did not start succesfully.
when my computer restarts it won't start unless I tell it to use the last known good configuration.
I then get an error message from Microsoft windows saying the system has recovered from a serious error.
I am also constantly getting a popup box from spyware protection saying we have found and blocked command services to veiw blocked items click here this is appearing approx every 5 mins. (Malware forum tell me this is a false report)
I cannot restore my computer because it isnt booting normally.
This has been going on for over a week now I have rang AOL and they say the problem doesnt lie with them.
Any help you could give me would be very much apprieciated Thankyou in advance
if you would like a link to what has been done over in malware just let me know
Once again Thankyou

Are you able to re-install AOL

Check you have any passwords needed

Does the AOL browser restart the PC, or the AOL connection

Is the connection set to disconnect if idle

Click start then run, type prefetch then press enter, click edit, select all, right click any file, click delete, confirm

Items in blue which are underlined are clickable to give more information about the process

Click start then run, type sfc /scannow then press enter, you need the XP CD

Windows File Protection will show an on screen blue progress bar which will simply disappear when the scan is complete, reboot when it does

Occasionally the system file check does not start using run, so you can also right click the taskbar, click task manager, click file, new task, type sfc /scannow then click OK

If you do not have an XP CD you can borrow a same version as was originally installed XP CD, if you downloaded SP2 then you need an SP1 XP CD

Sorry this may take a little while now as we are in the middle of moving house and all my discs are packed away so it is going to be a case of trying to locate the box they are packed in.
Once again Thankyou

No problem, post back when you can

Prefetch doesn't need a disc, you can run sfc /scannow also, if no files are missing it shouldn't need the disc, if it asks for the disc, click skip, if it keeps asking, click cancel, then you will know system files are missing

If AOL shut the PC off during the scan, it won't have completed it

The blue progress bar for the scan should go right across

Either of these will check the memory isn't the problem

Click this for a guide to using Memtest

Click this to download Memtest

Run it overnight if possible

Or

http://oca.microsoft.../en/windiag.asp

Have you made any changes to the video card drivers recently
