I have no idea what happened but the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT permissions are empty. Is this the work of malware? Thanks in advance.

Have you ran any spyware/virus scans recently?

Try an online scan, free, and doesn't hurt to get a second opinion.

Yes I have NOD as my primary scanner. I also have AdAware, CounterSpy and Spyware Doctor.

Thanks for the links.

Could someone please post the default permissions for the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT section of the registry?

Thanks.

Try this:

Go here and download "Dial-a-Fix" (freeware): http://www.softpedia...ial-a-fix.shtml

It comes in zip format so you'll have to unzip it.

Run the .exe

In "dial-a-Fix" click on the "hammer" at the bottom. This will open Dial-a-Fix tools.

In the top pane scroll to "Repair Permissions" and select (click on).

At the bottom click on "Go".

Let Dial-a-Fix do it's thing which could take some time.
