For no apparent reason, my Seagate 80GB External Hard Drive will not power on. When I plug it into an outlet, the green light on the AC Adapter indicates that a current is running through it but when I press the power button, the drive will not turn on. I have all of my music files and many programs on this drive. What may have caused it? Can it be corrected? And, If not how can I retrieve that data on the drive?

Thank you.

Probably an internal connection has come adrift, though that's unlikely if the unit is never moved. If you can work out how to open the case (with power supply unplugged of course) you may see where the bad connection is and put it right. Failing that, it's just a standard IDE disk inside so you can remove it and mount it inside your PC as a slave.
