Hi Geeks.

Having a little problem with the home laptop. I’m running XP Home on a Dell Latitude and the machine is not connected to the internet.

My wife bought some DVDs at a Thrift Shop… old Hollywood movies. WinDVD is the program she was using to view the movies. The computer would lock up on them from time to time but she kept rebooting. Then things went wrong! She got a window… something about “profiles” she said. Anyway, by the time I got home all I got was a nice wallpaper of a hill with the Recycle Bin and a balloon wanting to know if I would like a tour of Windows XP. And I have the Start bar at the bottom. Our desktop is gone.

We bought the computer on eBay several months ago and program discs were not provided.

I will sincerely be thankful if anyone can shed some light on this.

Thank you.

Under User 1 there is a desktop folder, open it, and does it contain what you are missing on your dekstop?

Seem to have lost you, jaxisland, but I may have fixed the problem with a 'System Restore'. Anyway things seem to be back to normal. If you have any further ideas, please let me know.
Thanks again... Bry
