Hi,

first off thank you so much for helping out.

Secondly, I've downloaded and run the following programs but it has still not taken off the malware:
  • SuperAntiSpyware
  • Windows Defender
  • AVG Antispyware
  • Spyware Blaster
  • Spybot
  • Panda Activescan
  • Adaware
  • AVG Virus scan
My main problem is ads from Vibrantmedia.com keep popping up. They came when Winantispyware was kind enough to self install itself despite me yelling at the computer not to install it. The scans also mentioned other trojans and I redid the Panda Activescan after running all the programs and it still said I had some viruses.

So.... here are the logs for HJT, AVG, and Panda Activescan:

Hi stephbealee,

Let's make a start on this clean up operation.

First, I need you to download some tools that we will use for your fix. Save them to your Desktop

VundoFix.exe

SDFix

OTMoveIt by OldTimer

ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

Deckard's System Scanner

Spy-Bot's TeaTimer is a good tool for the prevention of spyware, but it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now. It can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

Run VundoFix.exe:
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • When scan is done, Right click in the list box under the title banner, and click Add more files?
  • Paste the file paths, from the code box below, one path per lline, into the boxes
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\urqnnnn.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\opnkifg.dll
  • Click the Add Files and then Close Window
  • Click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Run SDFix:
Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%, (typically C:\SDFix)
  • Restart your Computer in Safe Mode
  • As soon as it starts to boot up, tap your F8 key repeatedly.
  • This should bring up the Windows Advanced Options Menu.
  • Use your arrow keys to select Safe Mode and click the Enter key.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save as C:\SDFix\Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum

Run Deckard's System Scanner:
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double click on the dss.exe file on your Desktop and follow the prompts.
  • Scans will run, and 2 text files will open in Notepad.
  • Close both of the text files.
These files are C:\Deckard\System Scanner\main.txt & extra.txt. I will need you to copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.
  • Also post the text from:
    C:\vundofix.txt
    C:\SDFix\Report.txt
The text from these files may exceed the maximum post length for this forum, and may need to be sent over 2 or more posts. Please ensure all text is posted.

Cheers,

sage5

Sage,

I'm so sorry it took me so long to reply! I thought I'd get an email informing me that you'd replied so I was just waiting. I finally started getting a little worried and then came to the forum only to see that you'd replied a long time ago! So thank you for your quick response and I'm so sorry for my long delay in replying!

Hi stephbealee,

I have a couple of questions for you.

1. In the Deckard's System Scanner log provided, there is this listing of the User Accounts on this PC:

Steph (admin) ---> standard
Administrator (admin) ---> standard
Guest (guest) ---> standard
walt (new local, admin, net ready) ---> these 2 may have been added without your knowledge.
Steph.TRAVEL (admin)

Question: Did you add these accounts?

2. In the Deckard's System Scanner log provided, there is this line:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\explorer]
"NoWelcomeScreen"=1 (0x1)

This line disables the Welcome Screen at logon, and I think may be to hide the existence of those 2 new accounts.

Question: Did you apply a tweak to remove the Welcome Screen?

My apologies, I missed this next bit in my previous post, and it may have blocked the effects of the scanners used.

The real time protection used by programs like Windows Defender can interfere with malware cleaning procedures.
Please follow the steps below to temporarily disable Windows Defender
  • Open Windows Defender
  • Click Tools
  • Click General Settings
  • Scroll down to Real Time Protection Options
  • Uncheck Turn on Real Time Protection (recommended)
  • After you uncheck this, click on the Save button
  • Close Windows Defender
Once your system has been deemed free from malware, you can re-enable Windows Defender's Real Time Protection.

Clean out cookies, temp files etc:
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

    If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.

NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
    • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.

NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
  • Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

To be safe, I need you to re-run those scans from before:
Please delete the existing C:\SDFix\Report.txt & C:\vundofix.txtfiles.

Re-run VundoFix.exe:

Hi Sage!

Thanks again for your quick reply and I apologize for my delay... again :whistling: And a big thanks in general for helping out so unselfishly, it's so neat!!!!!

First, the answer to your two questions about the usernames and the welcome screen. I'm almost positive my dad added himself (walt) and connected me to the work server (I work at a travel agency and have seen steph.travel in quite a few places).

I followed all the steps, the only thing that I wanted to mention was that I didn't have the
C:\Program Files\?ystem32
C:\Program Files\Common Files\??crosoft.NET
files to erase on the explorer. I know you said only if I had them, but wanted to mention it to be sure since I had a microsoft.net folder and a system32 folder. Pretty sure you didn't add the ?? accidentally but wanted to double check.

Here are the results of my scans:

Finished

That's it! And as far as the computer goes, it's hard to say because the internet is having a LOT of trouble connecting tonight so my main problem of pop ups appearing doesn't have a chance because it times out after it loads one page! I'll keep you updated though!

Have a wonderful night and thank you again!

Steph!

Whoops, sorry, double replied!

So I'll just take the time to give props to you Sage and the other helpers on this site. Pat, pat on the back from me! High fives from me! MVP awards... I could go on and on!

Steph!

Hi stephbealee,

We just have a couple of more deletions to go.

I'm sure those folders with the odd names will be there, but your WinXP is currently hiding them from you.

Make sure Windows XP is set to show all files:
  • Click Start > My Computer.
  • On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
  • On the View tab:
    • Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.
    • Uncheck Hide protected operating system files.
    • Under Hidden files and folders click Show hidden files and folders.
  • You will see a warning message, click Yes.
  • Click Apply.
  • Click OK.

Reboot into Safe Mode:
  • Restart your Computer
  • As soon as it starts to boot up, tap your F8 key repeatedly.
  • This should bring up the Windows Advanced Options Menu.
  • Use your arrow keys to select Safe Mode and click the Enter key.

Remove these folders
  • Using Windows Explorer, (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), delete these folders, (if present):
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinAntiSpyware 2006 Free
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\f02WtR
    C:\Program Files\?ystem32
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\??crosoft.NET
  • Delete these files, (if present):
    C:\Documents and Settings\Steph\Local Settings\Temp\thinksnet.exe

Shut down & Reboot normally:

Run HijackThis.
  • Click the Do a system scan only button.
  • Check the boxes for the all the entries listed below:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [{A6-6C-CE-E0-ZN}] C:\DOCUME~1\Steph\LOCALS~1\Temp\thinksnet.exe CHD003
  • Now close all windows other than HijackThis and click Fix Checked.
  • Close HijackThis.

Shut down & Reboot normally:

Run HijackThis again:
  • Select the Run a system scan and save a logfile button. The logfile will open in Notepad.
  • Start your Web Browser and navigate back to this thread.
  • Click the Add Reply button
  • Copy and Paste the text into the Reply window.
Please include a note to tell me how your PC is running now.

Cheers,

sage5
