Hi everyone.

I am having trouble with installing java with mozilla firefox on kubuntu 7.04 feisty fawn.

I try to use the Adept Package Manager. but it gives me a error saying it cannot download the package. I am typing this from the linux pc.

All help would be great.

I need to enable java so I can listen to my favorite radio station on here.

Are your Extra/Multiverse repos enabled??

Try apt-get
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin
sudo update-alternatives --config java

If it then fails I would say it a server issue and should be temporary

this is what the commands returned:

nick@nick-linuxpc:~$ sudo apt-get install sun-java6-j

You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct

nick@nick-linuxpc:~$ 'apt-get -f install'

There is only 1 program which provides java
(/usr/bin/gij-wrapper-4.1). Nothing to configure.

You just didn't tell it (apt-get) what to force (-f) install. The command should be
sudo apt-get -f install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin

hi, welcome to geekstogo,
I am a forever newbie too, shall we try it gui style

- be connected to Internet
- click the k menu symbol choose: add/remove programs
(up pops window for password)
- write password in slot and hit enter
(up pops the add/remove programs window)
- in window, click the boxes: show unsupported, proprietary
(more goodies should then show up on next step)
- scroll down to and click: internet
- scroll down to java 1.4 plugin for mozilla firefox, click box
- click: apply changes

see how it goes, let know if no joy

now there is also one other program under that program on java 1.4 mentioning firefox called "Java web start 1.4" and not knowing what it really is, I downloaded that too without adverse affects, if someone knows what that program is about, please spill beans
