everytime i try to run my game my comp freezes

im using an old computer with windows 98. everytime i click the icon to start my game it starts to load and my comp freezes up, it just started doing this just a few days ago. the computer is recently reformatted and really doesnt have much installed on it besides aim,the game,and firefox.
i would really like to know how to do fix this so i can play my game again.
