When I start up my computer I get a big blue screen with the following:

"STOP: C000218 {rigistry file failure}
the registry cannot load the hive (file)
\systemroot\system32\config\softwareor
its log or alternate.it is corrupt, absent, or not writable"

I hit f12 on bootup and ran the diagnostic it came up with the error:

"DST Short Status Test Fail
Code: 1000-0146
msg: Unit 0:IDE status failed. status byte =64 Control Code = 1 msg=no
additional sense information"

I continued on to the system tree and ran tests

several error codes of

OFOO:1A44

Being a Dell, there was no XP recovery or system disk included.

Is there any one out there who might know what is up with this p.o.s. :whistling: ?

"DST Short Status Test Fail" means the hard drive is dying and needs replacement.
I strongly not recommend using that drive again until you need to, especially if it has stuff on there you want to recover. You'll need to buy a new drive, put a new copy of Windows on it and then get whatever you can off the old drive before it dies altogether.
