When I get to sfc / scannow, something flickers on screen for a nano second then goes. I don't get the second command either. Sorry Keith, I must be doing something wrong I take it?

Some systems do that
Click start, all programmes accessories, command prompt
Type sfc /scannow (there is only a space between sfc and /) then press enter

waiting for bar to progress and for prompt for cd

This time got as far as blue bar going out and waited for prompt to load cd which never came. Re booted anyway and unfortunately there is no change
