I would be grateful if anyone could point me in the direction of an "idiot's guide" to security settings for a wireless router. I have tried setting the firewall but this stopped anyone logging onto sites that required a password/log in for some reason. Disabling the firewall reverts to the sites being accessible but I then have to rely on the software firewalls on each laptop (Zonealarm).

It's a Netgear router (DG834G) but the manual is not very clear for a non-techie like me!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With a wireless router there are two types of security to consider:

1. Security between the internet and any PC you have connected to the router.

2. Security of your wireless connection from unauthorised use by those within it's range.

With my Netgear router there are 3 settings for the firewall -- I chose the middle one (don't use Netgear now so can't remember names of settings). Middle setting did not prevent me from logging in to secure websites.
