I just tried to install xp professional on my Sony PCV-1112 desktop. I left the computer to finish doing its thing when I came back the screen has PCI device listing...... then shows bus no's device ID and so forth. At the bottom it says BOOTMGR is compressed Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. Every time I restart it says the same thing over and over. I have inserted my xp disc but I have tried everything to get it to boot from the cd drive and not the hard drive. I have used esc, del, esc + del and nothing. please help!!!! I want to just put xp back on and leave it alone how do I re install my xp.

I suspect that bootmgr is part of the system BIOS. You might check to see whether the CMOS battery is working, it should be very nearly 3.0 volts. I'm not acquainted with Sony's but if you don't have it I would highly recommend downloading the manual for that model.
