If I leave my computer alone so that it goes to my welcome screen, and come back to remuse it, the computer freezes. I try the task manager, but it just freezes as well, and I have to restart.

It seems possible to me that your system is going into standby. Please open the Power Options applet of the Control panel and review your settings. If the system is both in standby and set to require a password upon resuming from screensaver, you may have more redundancy than is functional.

If no one has physical access to your computer while you are gone, it isn't even necessary to pasword protect
resumption after screensaver.

In fact, because of the new screens, unless you are still using a CRT monitor, the screensaver itself is not required.
It's just eye candy.
