So I haven't seen much that deals with killing this little bugger. Any word on what is happening or if there is anything that I can do to wipe it out? This is my only computer and I am currently using it for work. I am nervous about using it without getting this taken care of.

Please let me know what I can do.

Thanks,

Tom W.

Yes. Sorry about that. I have run Norton's and Adware Se. But I stopped running programs after I noticed that everyone is running them to no avail.

I am on Windows Xp Home edition.

Let me know if there is anything else you might need to know.

Thanks,

Tom

Please dont take suggestions from non-staff members. Malware removal is a tricky business and suggestions from non trained people can cause serious problems. We have a training program here at Geeks to Go that is open to anyone.

Please reboot your computer and post a fresh HiJackThis log for review.

Hi there!!!

I´m new around here and I need some help. I was infected too with this terrible menace, smitfraud.c
I deleted the files wp.exe, wp. bmp, the system key in regedit and that awful red and white icon is still there driving me nuts. It keeps sending messages that my system is in danger, the icons in my desktop are still there and some web pages are acessed without my request. Is there anyone that could help me get rid of this?

Thank you!

Hi ScHwErV,
as i can see, i did not give ANY bad advices ?
Also, i think that i can be a help with ad-aware, also spybot,
but not with HiJackThis. Will i take your post as a warning?
I didn't even adviced for HiJackThis, and i were Advanced member at Lavasoft Support forums. I didn't even know that LS forums were closed, and i heard about this forum a little too late. Well, sorry if i did something wrong!
(Hope you understand)

Please read the forum rules and start your own topic with your HiJackThis log.

Do not post your problems into other open logs saying "I have the same issue, here is my log" etc. This is too confusing for everyone involved. Also, please stay with your original topic when posting follow ups.

Your advice was not "harmful" by itself, but could hurt our ability to find threads. As helpers we search for threads with 0 replies. If you have replied to someones thread telling them to run spybot or anything else, then that thread will be missed and the person will not get our attention.

We would love to have you as a staff member if you are willing to go through training and help us out here. I posted the link above.
