Avast detected a worm earlier today and the popup... well, popped up. I put it in the chest and told it to clean the file. Avast then updated itself (normally, as far as I could tell). On reboot, the computer got all the way to the login screen and when it went into the "Applying computer settings", it informed me that certain files in Avast! had been changed and did I want to continue? I said no. I tried rebooting again, same thing. On third reboot, it didn't give me the Avast! message, but as soon as I was logged in, it went to "Applying personal settings" and then promptly logged me back out.

OK, so I went to reboot in Safe Mode. That worked, so I attempted to find out what was wrong with Avast. Avast informed me that its own files were corrupted, so I uninstalled and deleted it, then rebooted in Safe Mode. I tried downloading any number of Anti-Virus programs, but most will not install in Safe Mode. I couldn't do an online scan because most require IE and IE absolutely refuses to open. I finally got Panda to download, but upon running it, it told me it was corrupt. It wouldn't run in Safe Mode. So, using Foxfire, I went to this forum and proceeded to download SuperAntiSpyware and HiJack This! Please keep in mind that I cannot enter Normal Mode on my computer at this point. It will just log me back off. ATF-Cleaner has been run.

Here are the logs: (AVG will run properly in Safe Mode and is scanning now):

Update as of 9/21

The AVG scan ran all night and appeared to clean the system. On reboot, the computer will now not let me log in at all, even in Safe Mode. It just goes to "Applying Settings" and then to "Logging Off".

I'm at a loss.
