OK I do not know how the computer got into this state but...

I imagine at some point there was a windows live mail account set up to be the default mail client.

Also, in the start menu, it still shows Windows Live mail as the default mail client

It has been removed, and when you right click a file, and choose "Send to mail recipient" the OS still opens the MS web page instead of the mail client.

I have made sure that the default mail and news client is outlook express under internet properties.

I have rebuilt the the short cut in the "send to" folder for the user name to make sure it uses the default mapi client

I have gone into folder properties, file types, and made sure mapi is set to outlook express there.

Yet whenever i use the send to mail recipient it opens a web page.

I will be back at their home Monday and was looking for a few other things I could try.

I was thinking of backing up the mail and address book and simply reinstalling outlook express.

But any other measures I could implement would be welcome knowledge.
