Well, your log looks good! One last question. When you booted into Safe Mode this last time did you have to delete C:\wp.exe or was it gone?

It was gone. I only had to delete the program file "fjdvrupd."

Thanks again very much. I'm clicking onto PayPal now!

Hey,

Just following up and everything seems to be working fine--keeping my fingers crossed!

I never knew this service was available until yesterday when I was desperately seaching the Internet for a clue. My hat is off to you and your expertise.

Thanks again for helping me out of this jam--computers and the Internet are invaluable tools--until something screws up.

I'm glad everything is still working well! Thank you for letting me know :)

I originally found Geeks to Go the same way ;) - it made me mad enough to join the team ;)

Thanks again and don't hesitate to post again if you have any more troubles at all!

Congratulations your log is clean! Great job on the clean up :tazz:

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definitely a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.

I also recommend installing XP Service Pack 2 now that your system is clean.

http://www.microsoft.com - click on "Windows Updates" and install the critical updates.

I have some info that might help you -

I also had trouble with Trojan-Spy.HTML.Smitfraud.c and had the same problem you did with the black background once it was fixed. I finally found the registry entry that got my background restored to the blue-green color. I won't post how here because I don't want to violate the rules, but if one of the Geeks to Go staff members says it is OK, I'll be glad to share.

Since this topic has been resolved, I'm going to go ahead and close it. If you have any other problems at all you can just contact a staff member (or PM me) and we'll re-open it for you!

Once again, thank you!
