monitor connect problem

I have a computer with windows xp - ATI Radeon X600SE 128MB PCI Express w/DVI & TV Out -GEForce E6100SM-M Motherboard - I have a monitor at home Samsung Syncmaster 213T which I hooked up with an DVI to VGA adaptor and it works fine. I took the tower to my sister and hooked it up to her GE flat screen DVI/VGA monitor and the monitor will not work either way - hooked the monitor up to her tower and it works fine. Brought the tower back to my house and it works fine with my monitor. Do you have any ideas? Thank you Carol
