webcam problem

hi all,

my dad has a Sony Vaio VGN-A290, and he used to watch tv on it, by using his docking station,
and when we tried to put on a webcam, we saw TV in the WLM webcam window.. and it only used to work with Yahoo! Messenger..
Now, he has no tv anymore, and just wants to use the webcam, but we keep getting a gray window instead of seeing myself in the webcam..
i think it has something to do with the TV, but what can i do to fix this problem?
