Hi.

I was using my computer and I thought it felt kind of sluggish so i opened up task manger to see if anything was using a large amount of resources. nothing in the list seemed out of the ordinary except for wininit.exe

I don't remember seeing this process before so i searched the internet and most websites suggest that its a trojan. so i did a scan with nod32 and it didn't find anything. I thought id close the process in task manager and that blue screened my computer. after rebooting, i ran the scan again in safe mode and that didn't find anything either.

upon further research, some sites suggests that its a legitimate process in windows vista.

the file is located in C:\Windows\System32

The details tab information

file description: windows start-up application
type: application
file version: 6.0.6000.16386
product name: Microsoft windows operating system
product version 6.0.6000.16386
copyright: Microsoft corporation
size: 0 bytes

I'm running Windows Vista business edition 32bit and am confused as to whether this is a virus or a windows process.

Thank for your help
