Welcome back, you seem to have multiple hijacks. Download the latest version of Ad-Aware from here (if you already have Ad-Aware installed, make sure that it is the latest version and always go online and update it before you run it).

After installing AAW, and before running the program, you must FIRST update the reference file following these instuctions. (and you must always do this before you run the program at any later date).

Now do the following:

Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Scanning Engine:
check: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Cleaning Engine:
Check: "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Press "Scan Now"

- Check option "Use Custom scanning options"
- Check option "Activate In-Depth Scan"
- Press "Select drives\folders to scan"
- Select the active partition which is usually C:

Now press "Next" to let Ad-aware scan your drives. It will find a number of spyware files and registry keys. Right-click in that pane and choose "select all"

Now press "Next" again. It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK.

Finally, close Ad-Aware, and reboot.

Run Hijack This again and post back a fresh log.

Question: How long should it take Ad-Aware to scan? Mine appears to be doing something for about 10 minutes, and then just hangs. It doesn't say it's not responding, but it's not looking like it's doing anything either. I've let it run for up to an hour before giving up. Should it take this long? Thanks.

I now have bigger problems. I restarted and now WIndows won't let me into my profile in XP. Says it may be corrupted.

Ad-aware should be done in about 10 minutes. An hour is way too long.

Try restarting the computer using "last known good configuration":
1. Start Windows, or if it is running, shut Windows down, and then turn off the computer.
2. Restart the computer. The computer begins processing a set of instructions known as the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). What is displayed depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Some computers display a progress bar that refers to the word BIOS, while others may not display any indication that this process is happening.
3. As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.

Unfortunately, I've done the F8 thing, and it didn't work. Called Dell tech support, they ran a diagnostic, and it tells me the hard drive has failed. It's been recommended that I take the drive to a local store and pay the money to see if they can attempt to back up the data, then Dell will replace the old drive b/c it's still under warranty. Very frustrated.

That's odd, very coincidental--but I suppose possible. You might want to get a second opinion. Dell has been wrong before <_<

Unfortunately, a second opinion generally entails spending even more money. This same thing happened to me with an IBM a few years back. It was running fine and one day just had a meltdown. At least this time I'm under warranty. It's just recovering the files that I need to figure out where to go to get it done cheapest.

Thank you for your help otherwise!
