Hi all,

My brother plugged his sat nav into his PC USB yesterday and the pc shut down, now it wont boot just gives a continuous beep, the graphics is onboard, i've changed the PSU to a known working, i've taken the cmos battery out for a few hrs to reset the MOBO all to no avail.

Any ideas what it could be?

Thanks

Sounds as if the motherboard or the cpu or both are damaged. Please do the following:

1: Disconnect everything from the motherboard. Leave only the power cable, a ram module and the monitor. Reboot and see if there is any sign of life.

2: If the situation remains the same try to install a video card. You can use even a very old pci card. Reboot. Don't worry about drivers. We just want to see if there is any life left.

3: Replace the ram module.

If still no good then the motherboard is most probably damaged. It might be that the cpu is also damaged but the more common case is for a burned motherboard.
