Hello Folks,
I recently went to my C drive to look for a file and found a whole bunch of entries tagged on to the end of my known files. They all have an sqm extension. There are 38 of them. Beginning from 'sqmdata00.sqm' to 'sqm19.sqm and 'sqmnoopt00.sqm' to 'sqmnoopt19.sqm'.
I did a bit of research and have found the odd reference to sqm but no explanation. Can anyone tell me about them? Are they dangerous in any way? Do I need to remove them? If so, how?

A puzzled Cigos.

According to WhatIsThatFile.com, sqm files are either Squirrel Mail files (from Windows Messenger) or a trojan. It specifically says that sqmdata00.sqm is a trojan, so I would at least remove that one.

Do you have an up-to-date A/V program?

These seem to be Windows live messenger log files.

or it could be a game you have.

.SQM are files that are created when you sign in to MSN Live Messenger.

You can delete all files that ends with the extension of .sqm. You won't get into any problem after deleting it.

Thanks Guys,
The problem certainly appeared to be 'Service Quality Monitoring' by MSN. Although I did not use this program and had shifted most of it, I was able to track back to Application Data, get the options menu and stopped my unwanted participation in the Customer Experience Improvement Program.
What puzzles me is why it should occur just at this time when I have not been near MSN Messenger?

Anyway, I'm clear at the moment. Thanks again to each of you.
