As the title implies, I am having intermittent internet connection problems. I am in Virginia using Verizon DSL. The modem I am running is the Westell 6100. Additionally, I am using a wireless router, specifically the Linksys BEFW11S4. There are stretches where I won't have a problem with the connection; however, there are times where it is in and out every three minutes. I would greatly appreciate assistance in walking through a list of things (whatever they may be) I can check off before yelling at Verizon. I am quite sick of going through their troubleshooting.

As I have noticed is custom, I have posted a Hijack this log for my laptop (I live with a few other guys and we are running a few laptops and an Xbox 360 on the network).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Best,
Alex

Since I am not all that familiar with Verizon DSL, I will focus on the Lynksys router.

First thing to check is to ensure your router is secure. If you are not using a password for the router, anybody can get internet access through your router. Depending on the bandwidth of your ISP this could result in slowdown or, as you are experiencing, intermittant connection problems.

Second thing to look at is interference. By default Lynksys chooses Chanel 6 when you set up your router. This channel is notorious for having interference problems with such things as microwaves and cell phones. Try changing to channel 11.

Hope this helps.

I had Intermittent connectivity with Verizon in Massachusetts from March 07 to 12/10. They kept sending me out new router/modems......

Bye the way- Same westell 6100 modem- they are now book ends

I kept telling them it was intermittent. and not constant.

I was on a 3mps plan- the signal was to weak. I was over the footage from the distribution center.

Call you ISP provider and ask them how far you are from the distribution center. Its around 18000 ft or so.

If you are in my boat they decreased the speed- and it never affected my upload/dowload because I was never getting the full bandwidth to begin with.

Dont put alot of time into this- they will want to do line test and all the garbage..and if the test is good they wont send anyone out.

Get on the phone and request to find out how far you are from the distribution center- END OF STORY
