I keep getting this message popping up on my laptop no matter what I'm doing. I get it even when I'm not connected to the internet. It simply says

"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click OK to terminate the application."

I can get these multiple times an hour and all I do is click OK and all is well till the next time it pops up.

Any ideas?

Try this:
Open your command prompt (In Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt, or Start>Run "cmd") and type in "sfc /scannow" without the quotes. This will have Windows scan your important windows files and replace them if corrupted. You may want to have your OS media handy.
If this doesn't work, go to Start->Run (or Windows + R) and type in msconfig. Click on the Startup tab at the far right and select "Disable All." Then reboot your computer and see if your computer runs without the error occurring. If this fixes it, you can re-enable each service until you find the one that doesn't work.

See if either of these work, okay? Good luck!
