Hey,
I have a compaq r4000 Notebook, ( http://www.notebookr...sp?newsID=2395) and It has a dead keyboard... well almost..
If i Press the keys *really* hard for a while they will start typing (I.E. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....) and won't stop till i turn off the computer.
Also the button that turns the touch pad on/off suffers from the same problem (Luckily it's stuck on "on" not off so i can still use it. But I have to put a normal slimline keyboard on top of my laptop to use it =(

I bought a New keyboard off ebay and installed it but it hasn't fixed the problem.. I also reinstalled XP, formatted the HDD and got new drivers etc... Hasn't made any difference.

Any suggestions on what i could try to fix it? :)

Sorry if you have done all that your next choice would be to replace the motherboard.... not an economical option unless you can find and EXACT model on e-bay for parts.
