I'm surprised that this topic has not came up yet. I have read the reviews from both Tom's Hardware and Anand Tech and they come up with simular results but seem to take different sides of the story.

Tom's Hardware: Phenom 9700, AMD's 1st Quad-Core CPU

Anand Tech: AMD's Phenom Unveiled: A Somber Farewell to K8

it hasn't been brought up because the newer Phenom chips have less performance than intel's core 2 quad series and the core 2 quad have been out a year or more.

The new Phenom chips aren't going to take over intels better performance but they are going more towards cheaper cost to compete with Intel yet again.

If the new Phenom chips were extremely faster than the Intel cpu's you would see many reviews/benchmarks and people switching back to amd but that isn't going to happen right now until amd releases another CPU that outperforms Intel's with a cheaper cost like they did back with the amd socket 939 versus intels socket 478/775 Pentium 4/D series..

I read a magazine article on it today, it was very interesting, and concluded with the new AMD = 4 stars, and the Core 2 Quad = 4.5 stars

sounds dead on the money to me. Nothing wrong with the new amd phenoms but they will be selling at cheaper cost to compete which will bring more buyers always trying to save a buck or 2.
