Hi. I restarted Vista home premium after disabling tweaks set in TweakVI and EasyBCD and defragging using SmartDefrag (latest beta version). Now I get the dreaded 'NTLDR is missing' message when I restart. I have no Windows CD as my laptop came pre setup with the OS installed. Anything I can do to save my computer and my files????

Thanks in advance!

And lay off using beta software! It's for testing purposes by those who have a spare PC they don't mind getting messed up, or those who have a full backup/restore strategy in place.

i had this problem before, tried all of the above a numerous amount of times (loads of installs and formats) and the problem turned out to be a dodgy SATA cable!

just something to consider

This page only seems to give boot steps for operating systems up to XP. How will the CD option work with my laptop and vista?

Oh and yeah, I'm finally learning my lesson about beta versions.....

[EDIT] Going ahead with the CD option anyway, everything works fine up to the OS choices menu. I find that option 3 of 10 is the only one that gets me anywhere. But the computer stops working either at a black screen (normal), a grey screen (last known good config.), or the driver loading screen (safe mode). Not sure where to go now (apart from to a repair place and have my hard drive backed up and restored....)

Just thought. Would it work if I used a HDD case, plug into someone elses computer (same OS - vista H.P), and just copy the missing/corrupt boot data to my hard drive? The make shift boot cd doesn't seem to want to work and I don't want to have to buy a recovery disk, or at worse a new copy of vista.
