In the last day my welcome screen(http://www.petri.co....come_screen.jpg) has stopped appearing. It simlply goes straight to my desktop, the difference being that it seems to all load slower than usual. I didnt change anything in the control panel, user accounts. The settings are set so that the welcome screen should turn up. Its only happened within the last day and i cant think of anything i did drastically except for one minor thing that happened which was Firefox installing the usual updates. Everything else seems to be running ok but im just a little worried about why that would be happening and if its sign of any major trouble, a virus maybe of some sort ?

I appreciate your help.

Hello emilia and welcome to geeks to go!

I know that you said all of the settings are set up so that the welcome screen should load, but could you please double-check with the following reference:
http://www.mvps.org/...sXP/welskip.php

See the following Microsoft KB and determine whether the specified registry entries exist:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315231

Please do not change anything, just perform the check.

More information on the welcome screen here:
http://www.kellys-ko..._wel_screen.htm

Also make sure you have two user accounts, other than guest, on your system and have fast user switching (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279765) enabled.

You could also try Doug Knox's XP FixLogon utility, if it needs to be fixed:
http://www.dougknox....ix_xp_logon.htm

Regards,

Ax

:) Good to hear emilia! Sometimes its nice to be able to see what the settings are supposed to look like as compared to what they do look like. You're much welcome.
