Let me say first that I read the "start here" post and went through the whole laundry list of progs that I haven't already used. They all found a bunch of stuff, but I'm positive there's still plenty they didn't. I'm getting popups from Aurora, loadingwebsite, etc etc. Here's my log... thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Zulu,

Welcome to Geeks 2 Go. Looking at your log we have plenty of work to do here, including getting rid of the very persistant "Nail"

We'll tackle all of this in a sequence so that i can see what is left of Nail at the end.

First, we need to remove a possible peper trojan. Download this file, run, and let terminate (it'll just blink briefly on your screen and won't appeared to have done much--this is normal):
Peperfix

Next download a free 30 day trial of Kaspersky antivirus from the link below, as you may have a possible Bube infection. Install it and let it update and run and fix anything it may find.

Kaspersky

Rescan with HJT and post the log back in this thread

Ok I did what you said. While Kaspersky was scanning a few files came up (sometimes the same file more than once) that it could not delete. Here they are:

SSIEBBR.DLL
KBKTAJ.EXE
IIPALL.EXE
APJXTKV.EXE
DELPROT.SYS
EDMOND.EXE
BW2.COM

Also, I forgot to mention in my first post that my computer occasionally reboots spontaneously. Here is my new HJT log...

Hi Zulu,

Here is the next part of the fix,

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log, and we'll clean up what's left. :tazz:

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Hi Zulu,

Don't know what time it is where you are but it's 6am here and 've just got up.

i would like you to Download a free 14 day trial of a program that i have heard excellent reports about called ewido from the link below.

Ewido

Install it and then doubl click on the new icon for the program. You can't miss it, it's a big yellow E. It will ask you to upgrade the database. Follow the instructions.
Once it is ready click on the Scanner button, Select C drive if you have more than one and then start.

grab a cup of coffee, sandwiches, book and sleeping bag as this will take some time. :tazz: Once the first problem is detected ensure you tick the box for all (bottom left) and allow it to continue.

At then end of the scan, it may ask if you would like to delete anything found in archive or zipped files, OK that request, then click on save report. SAVE to the default location, it will then generate a text file. Copy that to post in this thread.

Carry out another HJT scan and post the log back here, so we can sort out any remnants

Well I scanned w/ ewido and it found a bunch more files and told me to reboot. After I did that most of the files came up again, and it told me to reboot once more so I don't know how much progress this made. Before I post the log, I just wanted to thank you for your help on all of this... it is VERY much appreciated and I can definetly tell a difference in performance already. Without furthur ado, here is the ewido log:

It's starting to look like we are getting somewhere :tazz:

Please follow the next proceedure

Click Start > Run > and type in:

services.msc

Click OK.

In the services window find System Startup Service. If present Rightclick and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK. Exit the Services utility.

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close ALL windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Ensure you set up PC to show hidden files (click link below if you do not know how)

Show hidden files

Using windows explorer locate and delete the following files/folders if found

C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\
C:\WINDOWS\System32\iipall.exe
c:\windows\system32\apjxtkv.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\n20050308.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\picsvr\picsvr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Carry out a free on line virus scan from the following link, allow it to fix anything it might find.

Panda Active Scan

Rescan with HJT and post the log back in this thread.

PLEASE DO NOT REBOOT OR CLOSE DOWN HJT UNTIL I GET BACK TO YOU AFTER SEEING YOUR RESULTS. One of the little blighters keeps changing it's name and i need to make sure that we get it this time.

A few notes that may help you...

The last line you told me to check and fix in HJT wasn't there:

O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe (file missing)

Also, I couldn't delete the C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\ directory due to an access denied error. The rest of the files you asked me to delete weren't there.

Here's the new log:

Hi Zulu,

We are still on course, the fact that certain files arn't present is good news.

Download the following program.

*Click Here to download Killbox by Option^Explicit.
*Extract the program to your desktop but do not run it yet.

Boot into SAFE MODE again (tap F8 KEY whilst PC boot up.)

Rescan with HJT again and check the following

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ffis] C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\ffisearch.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Desktop Search] C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\desktop.exe

ensure no windows open apart from HJT and click FIX CHECKED.

Set up PC to show hidden files again and using windows explorer find and delete the following

C:\WINDOWS\ISRVS

If you are unable to find or delete the above folder then

Locate Killbox that you downloaded and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
*In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
*In the field labeled Full Path of File to Delete enter the file paths listed below ONE AT A TIME (EXACTLY as it appears, please double check to make sure! I would just copy each file path and paste it in the field) MAKE SURE TO ENTER ALL FILE PATHS!:

C:\WINDOWS\isrvs

Press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it after each one. When it asks if you would like to delete on reboot, press the YES button, when it asks if you want to reboot now, press the NO button. Do this after each one until you have entered the LAST file path I have listed above. After that LAST file path has been entered press the YES button at both prompts so that your computer restarts. If you recieve an error message "PendingRenameOperation...." and your computer doesn't restart, please restart it manually.

Rescan with HJT and you guessed it, post the log back in this thread

WOO HOO,

From your log, I see nothing in the ways of trojans, nor any evil entities attempting to possess your computer, except for Windows but it's too late for that one. ;)

Congratulations your log now appears to be clean. :tazz:

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.

YES!!! Sounds great, I'm off to download firefox as we speak. Thanks again for all the help, time to secure my comp so this doesn't happen again. One last quick question... would this be a good time to download Windows XP SP 2 since my comp. is clean?
