I have saved many old emails from outlook express saved on the hard disk.
I have made a few changes on the computer- reinstalled -new xp it and changed my email. ( I think the file was saved when my computer was win2k or may have still been win98)
Now when I want to open one of the old email files I get an error un able to open error (0x80004005 I think the computer is not next to me now.) I tried to change the definition in the tools -> folder option but with no luck (It was correct)
I can't change the ending of the file and can't copy or open with the Internet explorer.

Does any one know how to solve the problem?

How did you save those old emails, or in other words what file-format are they in, vally?

1. Are you running any Norton products?

2. Try opening the e-mail in Microsoft Word, or something like Writer (OpenOffice) to get around the issue.

3. The error that you have - what does it say exactly? Does it say what it can't open, like a message store? See if you can get it word for word.

I'm also thinking it might be a registry issue because you've migrated to another operating system, but there's usually some backwards compatibility. Let me know with the above three points!

vally, try changing the extension on the email to .eml and then open it.

1. Only norton antivirus the firewall and other options are not installed.
2. I tried to open it in word or outlook and allso outlook express. No luck.
3. I atached the errors in the order they showed up

I can't change the ending or even copy or move the files.
