Howdy and welcome to G2G:

Has this hdd been partitioned and formatted yet?

If not, then that is why you can't see it.

You need to go into Control Panel. Now, click on Administrative Tools.

From there, click on Computer Management.

When the new window opens, click on Disk Management.

Can you see the external drive on the right side of the screen?

If you can, right click on it and select "Format".
