I have four partitions on my hard drive. When I format/install WIN XP, what happens to the partitions? Are they wiped out or does Windows see them and leaves the status quo?

During format, at a certain point, all the partitions are displayed and you are asked on which partition you want to install XP. Only this partition will be affected. The others will be left untouched, unless you wish to delete them.
