(Windows XP Home user) I bought a Sitecom cardreader (Plug 'n Play - no drivers to install). Initially, when I plugged it into the bottom USB port at the front of my computer, I got the "USB Device Not Recognized" error. :) However, when I plugged it into the top USB port, it was recognized and functioned properly.

I read somewhere that I should go into Device Manager, uninstall all the USB devices and then scan for hardware changes so that all the drivers would be reinstalled. I did that, but now the problem is the opposite way round: the bottom USB port recognizes the cardreader, but the top port does not! :)

Other USB devices (e.g. my 1 GB USB stick, and my digital camera, etc.) are always recognized on both ports. :)

Using DriverGuide.com, I have discovered that my USB drivers are out of date. How can I find new drivers on Internet and install them? (N.B. Please tell me step-by-step in plain English, I am neither a computer nerd nor a GEEK, but a novice, quite wet behind the ears! :) )

Here are the details:
Intel® 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D2
Intel® 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D4
Intel® 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D7
Intel® 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24DE
Intel® 82801EB USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 24DD
USB Root Hub (6x)

All help will be greatly appreciated!

Happy New Year!

Rob Stuart

If you don't have Service Pack 2, then a recommendation is to upgrade to it as it contains USB enhancements.

And most drivers in Windows are dated from July 2001 for common things like USB, etc. If you need to update them, grab the chipset drivers from, in your case, Intel's website.

They're normally generic.

As to the card-reader, these things are generally recommended you plug them in on the back USB ports rather than the front ones.
