Just got a new PC today with COD4 but it won't play... :) Checked my spec out and it is above the minimum requirements.

When I try to launch the game I get the following message:

Error during initialization:
Miles sound system initialization failed.
Make sure you have your sound card's latest drivers and DirectX installed.

I have checked and the latest drivers are installed and I've just installed DirectX 10.

So any ideas about what the problem is? In plain English? LOL

check out this post over on my other forums: http://v4v.us/forums.../direct_x_error

essentially all you need to do is:

Open up your Activision folder located in My Computer, Program Files:

In the Activision folder, select Call of Duty 4.
Open your Miles Folder
Look for the Mssmp3.asi file
Rename it to Mssmp3.bak

Exit out of your folders, and then attempt to launch the game
