Hi, murrdock, can you delete Pagehotoffers.info with Ad Aware? That is the only problem I can see with your logfile. Please post back.....thanks :tazz:

Please could you download these extra tools:

Go here and download the EScan tool: http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/mwav.asp

Download the following program called Killbox from here: http://www.downloads...org/KillBox.zip

To remove this from your computer, you need to find the dll file in order to permanently delete this pest.

Heres the problem

Please run the EScan tool.

Scanning with that tool will produce a logfile, this will uncover the the dll. Then it is a simple matter to unregister the dll and use the Killbox to eradicate any infected files.

Usually the culprits are this:

C:\WINNT\System32\systr.dll

C:\WINDOWS\System32\guninst.exe

When entering the .dll file(s) into KillBox, check the box that says 'Unregister DLL before deleting'.

:tazz: Thanks

Hi again.

We have noticed that you have more than one entry in the host file.

If your system is running a program which changes the hosts file or you have added listings to the hosts file then there is no need to check further. Otherwise, please download the "Host File Viewer" by Option^Explicit. It is a 65K program which will allow you to find/view/open/read/edit/restore to default settings your HOST file. Instructions are on the display screen of the program. Select the option to restore to default settings.

hi andy,

firstly, thanks for the quick replies - like i said, i really do appreciate it.

before i read your posting i read another of the same problem and found my way into the system32 folder and got rid of the the files (the url graphics, guninst.dll, and popup_bl.dll). i then ran killbot and deleted the param32.dll file BUT i didn't unregister it. now, on startup, my system still gives me the security warning on my desktop and takes forever to boot up. soo, i'm now going to see if i can get the file from the killbot backup and rid myself of it for good.

i'll let you know how it goes, and thanks for the tip!

hi again,

killbot seems to've put param32.dll in its own folder - iSubmit - and there it sits. what should i do?

(i'm so close!)

Hello

Sorry about the delay in repling.

Please boot into Safe Mode

Please then try to delete the file manually, or use killbox to.

Once you have deleted the file,

Please scan with Ad-aware using the full system scan setting. :tazz:

Thanks

hi andy,

thanks again for the reply. i did what you said, ran ad-aware and many other programs that didn't find anything. i still get the 'security warning' Trojan-Spy.HMTL.smitfraud.c error message on start-up and it still takes forever to boot up. i also get infrequent IE pop-ups even without IE opened.

very frustrated. other than any thoughts? running a defrag wouldn't help me out at all, would it?

thanks again.
