I shut down my windows xp and I tried to restart it and got a blk screen w/blinking cursor in top lft hand corner. The f keys do nothing but esc allowes me to chose boot sequence. I have recovery disks but when they try to send me to recovery it fais and I get option to reformat and overwright hd. I have loaded puppy Seamonkey but when I mount hd i canot find my pictures. {I had just loaded some of my daughter and had not backed them up yet} If someone could help me find and burn lost data to a dvd with puppy or reboot xp without reformating I would be verry greatfull.

Hi BobDobbs,

your best bet would be to remove the hard drive from your computer and mount it as a slave in another computer then see if you can save your data.

I or someone else here can provide more specific instructions on how to do this if needed.

Once it's backed up, look here (link provided by hfcq in another thread recently): http://support.micro...kb;EN-US;314503
