I found this site yesterday and downloaded the fixwareout.exe to a cd. Last night i loaded it on my pc, ran it and then ran the cleanmgr. and deleted cookies, temp inet files, temp files etc as directed in post #s 2 and 4. the fixwareout.exe URL was incuded in the #2 post.

After several reboots, i am still unable to login to the internet.

Prior to the above I contacted Comcast and ran thru all their crap with no success. Norton antivirus is loaded on my pc and ran it. That is how I found out about the Redirect virus. It was identified as one of the items from an 'on demand' scan. I think it was tied to Zango toolbar that my daughter downloaded.

Any way 2 weeks now and still can't get on to the internet.

What should I do next?

Hi there can you download and transfer this programme to the infected computer and run it Winsock XP Fix If that works then post a Hijackthis log from that computer..

Download & Run HijackThis.exe

  • Download HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.
  • Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install it.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Copy/Paste the log to your next reply please.
Don't use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
Don't have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

If you are still unable to access the internet then transfer the Hijackthis log to the uninfected one and post it in this thread - I hope that makes sense
