Hello,

My name is JR, I was emailed a link from a friend, leading to a video. To view the video I had to download ... WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE. I have already completed & done everything in the "You Must Read This Before Posting In HijackThis Log". When I finished doing everything yesterday afternoon, all seemed fine. Even ran Panda Scan & showed no threats or problems. Well I just got in the office this morning & now I know I have an even worse problem. When I started up the computer, my background has been changed to RED Bio-Hazard Looking thing (i have a Print Screen View Of Desktop attached to this post), with some fake anti-virus link on the background. I am now stuck & don't know what to do. Can someone PLEASE HELP ME CURE THIS ISSUE!!! For any help, I would be greatful. Thank You

As soon as I got in the office today & saw the background (remember I thought all was fine) I downloaded HijackThis & just run a scan. So here is my scan results from the hijackthis.log file.

please help me cure this issue.

Thanks in advance,
JR

BTW: My computer is so slow now, it is sad. Does this have something to do with the Virus & Malware, and the fact that after following all pre-posting instructions, I now have about 7 Anti-Virus/Anti-Spam/Anti-Ware programs? including Norton Internet Security 2008 that I started out with. And seems as if all are running together.

Also. This is my BUSINESS WORK Computer. So I really need some help, getting this fixed as soon as possible. If someone doesn't mind responding to me today, hopefully this morning. I would be greatful!

I know a little about computers, but don't know everything. I write our company websites on this computer, and im worried the longer the Virus / Milware / Spyware is on the computer, the more chance I have of our websites getting hacked or someone getting the website log in info. (if someone can, let me know if this is something I honestly need to worry about) thanks!

So whoever helps me knows:

I just ran Spybot Search & Destroy again, after posting the HijackThis log above. Not sure if it matters, just wanted to let you know.

I had to run Spybot S&D because, when I run it, it stops the Internet Explorer Pop-Ups that open on there own & go to some anti-spam site. This also stops those "Fake Windows Boxes" from poping up saying I have a virus or are in danger. This will just help keep the things from popping up, while Im waiting on help from someone here. When I shut down the computer, then restart it later, everything that Spybot S&D stopped, Returns!

Still Looking for some help here, on this topic. I see many have already viewed this topic, but none have replied. I have gone through old postings all day yesterday. And NOTHING. I have done everything they state. Including the SmitFraud posting, and downloaded and did all removals.

Also, on the SmitFraudFix.exe, there is No .exe file in my folder. The only thing in there, is SmitFraudFix.cmd. Also, the folders is saved to my desktop, and I can not view the folder or find the SmitFraudFix.exe or .cmd when in Safe Mode. I even tried moving the SmitFraudFix.cmd from the folder to the desktop, but still doesn't show up in Safe Mode (or work outside the folder). So I ran SmitFruadFix in Normal Windows, and scanned and deleted. As of yesterday, everything seemed ok. But come back in this morning and Nothing Helped!

So if anyone can help me out here. I would be grateful.

BTW: I after doing the stuff yesterday, i felt a little bit better, because at least the Bio-Hazard looking background was gone. Well, as I stated above, nothing worked, come back in this morning and the bad Bio-Hazard Background it back. and the entire desktop, is a clickable link, so I just have to make sure to click the icons on the desktop & not the back ground.

Hello

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • If your anti-virus or firewall complains, please allow this script to run as it is not malicious.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

First Of All: "Thank You Very Much For The Reply & Help!" :)

Ok, well Im not sure why but, when I ran the dss.exe, the only notepad folder that opened was main.txt. Is there somewhere I can look to find the extra.txt??

Here is the Main.txt:

When I did everything and clicked the Moveit! Everything seemed to have moved, except as soon as the stuff poped up in the Green Box Area, I got a windows "OTMoveIt has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." But before clicking (Debug) (Send Error Report) (Don't Send) I was able to copy & paste the green box before windows closed it (I attached a print screen view of the error). So im not sure if it was going to ask me to reboot the computer. So I then clicked (Send Error Report) and I saw you stated to reboot, after you said if it asks to reboot, allow it. So I rebooted. Here is the info you asked for:

Moveit! Green Box Info:
C:\WINDOWS\fvqkfsp.exe moved successfully.
File/Folder C:\WINDOWS\dpvtporxno.dll not found.
DllUnregisterServer procedure not found in C:\WINDOWS\aswmklt.dll
C:\WINDOWS\aswmklt.dll NOT unregistered.
C:\WINDOWS\aswmklt.dll moved successfully.
File/Folder C:\WINDOWS\privacy_danger not found.

Don't worry about that

1. Please re-open HiJackThis and choose do a system scan only. Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below(if present):

O21 - SSODL: aswmklt - {9689D5B4-2F8D-4939-BFDE-9A301A955C2F} - C:\WINDOWS\aswmklt.dll (file missing)

2. Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, including browsers, so that nothing other than HijackThis is open, then click Fix Checked. A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES. Once it has fixed them, please exit/close HijackThis.

Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users
  • Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
  • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
  • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
  • Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
  • Click the Scanning Control tab.
  • Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
    • Close browsers before scanning.
    • Scan for tracking cookies.
    • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
  • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
  • Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
  • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
  • Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
  • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
  • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
  • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
  • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
  • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
    • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
    • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
    • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
    • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
  • Click Close to exit the program.

Also post a new DSS log and tell me how your PC is running

The system seems to be running fine now. But will it come back? Can I Run a SpyBot Search & Destroy Scan to see if it still finds the same files it keeps finding each time???

Also, I was just wondering. What is this file listed in the DSS report? I keep seeing it, and I have no clue what it is. Im just wondering, because it says Apple Computer, Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe ?? Is that bad?

Hello

But will it come back? Can I Run a SpyBot Search & Destroy Scan to see if it still finds the same files it keeps finding each time???

Feel free to run Spybot, the infection is gone now though

O23 - Service: ##Id_String1.6844F930_1628_4223_B5CC_5BB94B879762## (Bonjour Service) - Apple Computer, Inc. - C:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe

This entry is legitimate, I wouldn't have missed something like that don't worry :)

Few things to do

  • Make sure you have an Internet Connection.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
  • Click on the CleanUp! button
  • A list of tool components used in the Cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
  • If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OtMoveit2 to rech the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  • Click Yes to beging the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Now we need to create a new System Restore point.

Click Start Menu > Run > type (or copy and paste)

%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

Next goto Start Menu > Run > type

cleanmgr

Click OK, Disk Cleanup will open and start calculating the amount of space that can be freed, Once thats finished it will open the Disk Cleanup options screen, click the More Options tab then click Clean up on the system restore area and choose Yes at the confirmation window which will remove all the restore points except the one we just created.

To close Disk Cleanup and remove the Temporary Internet Files detected in the initial scan click OK then choose Yes on the confirmation window.

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer against malware infections.

* Keep Windows updated by regularly checking their website at :
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.

* To reduce re-infection for malware in the future, I strongly recommend installing these free programs:
SpywareBlaster protects against bad ActiveX
IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all
Have a look at this tutorial for IE-Spyad here

* SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

Make Internet Explorer more secure
  • Click Start > Run
  • Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
  • Click on the Security tab
  • Click Reset all zones to default level
  • Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
  • In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
  • Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

* MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.

* Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more
secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in pop up
blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from
Here

* Take a good look at the following suggestions for malware prevention by reading Tony Klein’s article 'How Did I Get Infected In The First Place'
Here

Thank you for your patience, and performing all of the procedures requested.
