it seems that I've been simultaneously infected with both the Downloader.MisleadApp and Trojan.Perfcoo trojans. I've run Ad-Aware and I've tried using Norton 3 times (normally, in safe mode, and with system restore disabled) going by symantec's directions, and that has not helped. I've also searched through forums to try using any information from anyone else with similar problems, but that has not helped either. I downloaded HijackThis, and though it downloaded and installed on my computer, it won't open--even in safe mode. Anyway, any assistance in removing these trojans would be very helpful. Thank you.

Hello fsfshorelines

Welcome to G2Go. :)
=================
Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE and Save As (in IE it's "Save Target As", in FF it's "Save Link As") to download Silent Runners.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will receive a prompt:
    • Do you want to skip supplementary searches?
      click NO
  • If you receive an error just click OK and double-click it to run it again - sometimes it won't run as it's supposed to the first time but will in subsequent runs.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

See if this scanner will run please.

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Try to rename it to look.exe
You can do this by right clicking on the file name and choose rename.

Let me know if it doesn't work.

Please go to Start>Run type in Notepad.
Copy what is in the code box below into the open Notepad window.
Change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as fixthis.bat on your Desktop.
@Echo off
attrib -s -r -h "C:\WINDOWS\system32\braviax.exe"
del /q "C:\WINDOWS\system32\braviax.exe"
attrib -s -r -h "C:\WINDOWS\system32\cru629.dat"
del /q "C:\WINDOWS\system32\cru629.dat"
attrib -s -r -h "C:\WINDOWS\cru629.dat"
del /q "C:\WINDOWS\cru629.dat"
attrib -s -r -h "C:\WINDOWS\braviax.exe"
del /q "C:\WINDOWS\braviax.exe"
quit
Don't do anything with this yet.
=====================
*Reboot your computer into SafeMode.
You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears.
Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.

Then please double click on fixthis.bat a window will open and close quickly.This is normal.
Please reboot into normal mode.
===============================
Then please download ComboFix from Here
Very Important when you are asked to save this file save it as Pickle.exe to your desktop.

After you download it
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you. >"C:\ComboFix.txt"
  • Post that log here in your next reply.
If you do not do this then this infection will stop combofix from running.

Post that log and let me know how it goes.

I got the fixthis.bat and pickle.exe things to work, but when I double click on combofix, a little load bar comes up, then goes away, and that's all. There is nothing at c:\combofix.txt; I tried searching for it. I'm attaching a screen shot of the loading that happens.

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\cru629.dat
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\braviax.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\cru629.dat
    C:\WINDOWS\braviax.exe
    C:\Start_.cmd
    C:\327882R2FWJFW
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be Moved" window (under the light blue bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • OTMoveit2 will create a log of moved files in the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder. The log's name will appear as the date and time it was created, with the format mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
======================================
After that
Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, in the menu, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Post that log in your next reply.

(Note if you cannot open the log it produces then right click on it and choose rename.
Rename it to .txt and you will be able to open it)

======================================
PLease then try to run Hijackthis and if that will not work then another Deckard system scanner log.
