hey ya'll, something little weird has happened twice now and I'm not sure whats going here...

Twice now when I've booted up this new system the computer boots but the monitor is black, power on but no picture, I hear sound and everything, then I hit the restart button and it runs fine. I hope it isnt a defective video card, could it be the card getting too hot? It hasnt happened consecutively, maybe a few weeks in between.

I've never had this happen before so I'm a little lost. It's only happened twice but still.....

Any ideas?

I am unaware as to what may be causing this problem. Because it's only happened a couple of times, and not repeatedly, it's going to be difficult to pin down the problem. What stress testing and diagnostics tests have you run for the system?

I don't think this could be a video card temperature problem, as it won't be overheating as soon as you turn the computer on... As an aside, though, what are the video card temperatures? And the other temperatures (e.g. CPU) as well?

where do I find the video card temp?

You can find video card temperatures by doing the following.
Install Rivatuner here
Then follow the great instructions here
There will be a few variances between the version you are doing and the version he used (2.05 vs. 2.08), but it should still be very easy to follow.
If you are confused at any point, please ask us as us before proceeding.

okay, I got it all installed, heres a pic of what I got but I noticed the temp went down when I turned off a game, (of course), I was using to test, anyway durring game play it was at 55c, does that sound right?

Please follow the advice below if you want to see if your video card is overheating.

• Download rthdribl
• Unzip the program
• Open the program
• Press 8
• Click file
• Click Configure
• Click the tab beside wide screen
• Next set your resolution to your monitors native resolution
• Press OK
• Let this program run for 15-30 minutes, the longer the better.
  
• To exit the program press Atl+Enter
• Immediately check the temperature afterwards and post that information here

At this point I believe your card is fine temperature wise, those idle temps are fairly low.

Okay, I did that (I actually had that program already installed) and I let it run for about an hour and the highest the temp got was 67c. Is that about right?

The temps you are describing are perfectly normal.
