I have a Dell Dimension 610 with a 8 GB SCSI hard drive and 128 mb RAM. I did a fresh install of Windows 98SE. It installed fine with no hang-ups, but roughly 5 minutes after getting to my desktop, it hangs with no activity at all. I have to do a hard reboot to get it to start over. I reseated the memory and even tried a different stick. The motherboard also has an IDE connector on it so I tried a IDE hard drive and loaded the OS on it. Still the same problem! I can't figure out if it is a hardware or software problem?

Any ideas??

Yes, originally it came with a SCSI drive and I thought that might be the problem so I switched it to a IDE. I also installed a version of Windows ME thinking that it may be the OS.

No, it does not. Usually, after roughly 5 minutes when my desktop appears, is when it locks up. However, in safe mode, I can move around for hours and no lock up. What does this mean? Can it be a driver or something that is loaded?
