Windows Explorer Illegal Operation, Programs taking up 95%+ CPU Usage

Recently I began getting an Illegal Operation box saying that "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." At first I just thought it was a one time thing and ignored it and restarted my computer. Now every time I restart it eventually returns and I just move it off the screen so it doesn't get in the way. I've ran virus scans and spyware/malware scans to see if a virus or malware is the problem. (AVG Anti-Virus w/ latest updates, Spybot S&D, Windows Defender) All returned a clean slate. On top of that, just a couple days ago LimeWire began using up 95% or so of my system resources. I installed the latest version and so far the problem has subsided. However, I downloaded and installed Winpooch today and now every time I run Winpooch the same thing happens.

I really do appreciate any help and I'm a pretty advanced computer user, so I get most of the technical jargon.

BTW, I use the latest version of Firefox for my web browser and have a hardware firewall.
