Hi all,

Programs and windows are opening and closing randomly on my computer; it gets worse if I move the mouse while it is happening. Then it stops. Everything will be fine for awhile, and then it happens again. So it comes and goes. I've gone through all of the required steps and nothing has been found. Here is my logfile:

Please download, install and run this disk cleanup utility called Cleanup version 4.0!

It will get rid of any malware which may be hiding in your temp folders ( a common hiding place). You will also regain a massive amount of disk space. Here is a tutorial which describes its usage:

Check the custom settings to your liking under options, but be sure to delete temporary files and temporary internet files for all user profiles. Also, cleanout the prefetch folder and the recycle bin.
Reboot when prompted to let it clean out the remaining files.

Reboot as normal

Please download and install these programs - don't run them yet!!

Hi Kc ~

Okay, I'm done! The Cleanup utility removed apx 800 files from the computer; the other programs did not detect anything (I ran them all except AboutBuster). Below is a fresh HJT.log and the scan report from Ewido. The Panda virus scan did not produce a report for me, as no viruses were found.

The computer is still randomly opening and closing programs and windows. It's like the mouse starts moving by itself. If I move the mouse while this is happening it gets much worse. Sometimes the computer will freeze up and I will have to restart. Sometimes it will stop and I can resume whatever I was doing. Again this happens randomly, but often enough to be a major annoyance.

Kc,

I ran these scans on May 12, per your previous instructions. They did not produce reports for me, as no viruses were found. I posted a new HJT.log for you in my May 12th post. Do you want me to run them again?

Hi Kc ~

I ran the Kaspersky scan and no viruses were found. All of the anti-virus programs I've downloaded recently seem to be conflicting with each other and making the problem worse, so I've had to delete some of them. Here is a new HJT.log.

Looks like your McCrapy ANTI-VIRUS is not fully working
O23 - Service: AVSync Manager (AvSynMgr) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee VirusScan\Avsynmgr.exe (file missing)
avsynmgr.exe is a part of the McAfee Internet security suite. It is responsible for the sychronisation of the virus defination files, and keeping your computer upto date. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated


Important Step
1. Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the service called:
kavsvc - Kaspersky Lab
When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows. If you don´t find this service listed go ahead with the next steps.
