No CPU your motherboard supports would likely change your situation very much.

On Crysis, you could try setting all settings to medium, or even to high, but keep Post Processing, Physics, Game Effects, and Particles on low. Those are the main CPU-intensive settings. The rest are handled mainly by the GPU, and the 8800GT can handle Crysis pretty well on high.
