I got a new wireless PCI adapter (Linksys N WMP300N), and for some reason, now the computer lags for about 3 seconds every minute or so. I watched Task Manager over and over again for many minutes trying to catch what it was that was spiking, and nothing ever appeared, even on fast refresh mode.

I called Linksys, they were no help, they said it "couldn't be their wireless adapter, and that I should call my computer manufacturer", so I did and they told me to contact Linksys, because it couldn't be their computer either...So I ran a log to see if I had any hidden viruses. When I scanned the computer with Avira Antivir, it found a CC/Agent.CZ in

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AOL Downloads\triton_suite_install_6.0.28.3\inst.exe

It deleted that, and the thought of having one virus on the computer spread to me thinking maybe I do have a virus that's causing the spike.
So hopefully someone can magically produce a solution to my heartache of $80 out the window...

Veoh was the only thing that was in there...
Also I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, checking for updates, calling Linksys, and calling IBuyPower, and they seem to go back and forth saying it's the other company's fault...

Don't know how much this will help, but you can do the following also:

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you checked the last one:

Did you try physically removing the card just to be sure? I really don't see how this would affect the resource usage though.

Yes, I have tried physically removing the adapter, and uninstalling the software, and without the adapter there at all, without the software, it doesn't spike. When I reinstall the adapter it MAKES me install its stupid little program that comes with it to "help" me with wireless connection. I fixed the items you told me to, and now the computer still lags even though those programs aren't active. I used a program called Process Explorer (found on another similar thread) to try to view what it is that is spiking the computer...only nothing pops up when it does lag, none of the running programs show an increase in system usage...If all else fails I may backup my important documents and format the PC.

You don't have any other wireless software installed there do you?

This is not recommended, but if you want, disable your antivirus and firewall for a few seconds just to see if it helps. They might be causing some conflict issues as well.

If that doesn't help either, I suggest posting this over at the Windows board. It's not an issue related to malware in your case. Let the guys over there know the situation. They should be able to provide you some possible solutions there.

Alright, well I've uninstalled all antivirus software (fully) and testing to see if it still lagged, it did.
I reinstalled just my main one, Avira Antivir...
I'll go post on the Windows board and see if I get any solutions, thanks.

A slow computer does not mean there is malware present. I don't see anything in your Hijack This log to indicate that your problem is malware related. I will post the following info to get you started in the right direction, but if you need further help with this you will have to post a new topic in the proper Operating System Forum. I'm closing this topic.

Here are some routine maintenance practices that you should do on a regular basis to keep your machine running efficiently:

Disk Cleanup:

Run chkdsk:

To use Chkdsk, click Start and My Computer. Right-click the hard drive you want to check, and click Properties. Select the Tools tab and click Check Now. Check both boxes. Click Start. You'll get a message that the computer must be rebooted to run a complete check. Click Yes and reboot. Chkdsk will take awhile, so run it when you don't need to use the computer for something else.

Remove unnecessary startups

This should be done through the System Configuration Utility. Go to Start > Run and type in msconfig.
Click OK or hit the Enter key.

Click on the "Startup" tab and remove the check by the items that you have determined are unnecessary. Click "Apply" then "Close"

You will be prompted to restart. Go ahead and restart.

Upon restart you will be confronted with a dialogue box warning about running in selective startup. Just ignore that message and put a check in the box by "Don't show me this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" and click "OK". You will not be bothered by the message again.

Keep in mind that some entries will be re-enabled in the startups each time you use that particular program. Therefore, you will have to find the option in that programs preferences that says something like "Load with Windows" or "Run when Windows Starts" and disable that option.
